Key Message

Variations in labs occur from 5-25% so stick to one lab to reduce the same it can be analytical within the labs or among different labs.

Go to a lab that has a qualified pathologist and is not run by technicians.

The reports of such labs should be accepted all over or atleast in reputed hospitals.
Glucometers must be calibrated every 6 months.

There is going to be a variation in blood sugar readings of a glucometer and lab because of variation in the place from where the blood is taken like venous and capillary.

Importance of fasting esp for blood sugar and lipids – On a daily basis, the normal range for blood sugar and lipids undergoes changes hour to hour depending on recent ingestion of food and drink. By fasting, one is getting a baseline sugar and lipid value that is not influenced by a recent meal.

His take home message was “ trust and always stick to one lab only DON”T GO SHOPPING”
