World Hepatitis Day is observed across the world on 28 July 2015. WHO and World Hepatitis Alliance have announced that the campaign theme for World Hepatitis Day 2015 will be “The prevention of viral hepatitis”.

Viral hepatitis – a group of infectious diseases known as hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E, kills 1.5 million people worldwide each year. That’s as many people as HIV/AIDS. Viral hepatitis is the leading cause of liver cancer. Liver cancer is the second biggest cancer killer.

Key messages of the World Hepatitis Day 2015

Prevent hepatitis – know the risks
Unsafe blood, unsafe injections, and sharing drug-injection equipment can all result in hepatitis infection.

Prevent hepatitis – demand safe injections
2 million people a year contract hepatitis from unsafe injections. Using sterile, single-use syringes can prevent these infections.

Prevent hepatitis – vaccinate children
Approximately 780 000 persons die each year from hepatitis B infection. A safe and effective vaccine can protect from hepatitis B infection for life.

Prevent hepatitis – get tested, seek treatment
Effective medicines exist to treat hepatitis B and cure hepatitis C.

Symptoms of viral hepatitis often go unnoticed. Feeling fine? Are you sure? Get tested.

Viral hepatitis can be avoided. Know the risks.Prevention  is better, be Safe?

Viral hepatitis can be treated. Everybody deserves the chance. Protect against viral hepatitis. Vaccination works.  Vaccinate your children.

Viral hepatitis doesn’t discriminate. Neither should you.

Even if you haven’t been vaccinated against hepatitis A, you can take steps to prevent infection:
Avoid water that could be contaminated with fecal matter.

Avoid undercooked or raw shellfish.

Always wash your hands with soap and water after using the bathroom or changing a diaper and before preparing and eating food.

Hepatitis: Think again.
Are you a team player? Spectator? think again Viral hepatitis can be beaten.
